Important Safety Information

Rock Safety lifting equipment supports a more controlled way to approach, engage, lift, lower, and displace access covers and grates. Safe operation still depends on a trained operator, a secured work zone, a properly configured vehicle, and compliance with the product manual, employer procedures, and applicable site rules.

Before Operation

• Read the instructions: Review the product-specific manual and your organization’s operating procedure before using the equipment.
• Inspect the system: Check the vehicle mount, fasteners, hydraulic components, magnet, electrical connections, remote controls, cables, and attachments before each shift.
• Secure the vehicle: Park on a stable surface, set the parking brake, and follow the vehicle manufacturer’s requirements before operating the RS-LIFTER.
• Control the work zone: Establish the required traffic control, barriers, lighting, and pedestrian separation before approaching the access point.
• Confirm the application: Verify that the cover or grate, selected attachment, and planned lift are within the approved capacity and configuration for the system.

Magnet Engagement and Remote Operation

• Maintain a clear view: Operate from a position with direct visibility or use the configured camera and monitor to support positioning.
• Seat the magnet correctly: Position the electro-magnet on a suitable contact area and confirm secure engagement before applying lift force.
• Keep clear: Never place hands, feet, tools, or other body parts beneath a suspended cover, grate, magnet, arm, or attachment.
• Lift deliberately: Use smooth control inputs. Do not shock-load the equipment or exceed the rated 600-pound lifting capacity.
• Use the emergency stop: On systems equipped with an E-stop, activate it immediately if movement becomes unexpected or the work zone is no longer secure.

Opening, Displacement, and Replacement

• Protect the opening: Treat every uncovered access point as a fall and traffic hazard. Install the required guarding immediately.
• Control the swing: Keep people and equipment outside the movement path when using a swing arm, telescoping arm, or grate attachment.
• Do not leave a load suspended: Move the cover or grate to a stable approved position as soon as the opening is clear.
• Replace with control: Confirm the opening is clear, then lower and reseat the cover or grate using the same deliberate operating sequence.

General Safety Precautions

• Wear required PPE: Use the high-visibility clothing, gloves, footwear, eye protection, head protection, and other equipment required for the site.
• Keep bystanders away: Only trained personnel should remain inside the controlled operating area.
• Account for conditions: Stop work when weather, visibility, traffic, surface stability, or other site conditions make the operation unsafe.
• Do not bypass safeguards: Never alter controls, defeat safety devices, or operate damaged equipment.
• Inspect after use: Stow the system securely, report damage or abnormal operation, and remove defective equipment from service until it is evaluated.
